FINISHED! Modern Jive Cartoon 3 / Facebook Dance Cartoon Project

The finished pic: I decided the drawing was working well as near-monochrome so have just used some red biro / ball point pen to do the final line work and add some shading. Thanks to Ann for sending in the photos that inspired both this drawing and the previous one.

Step 2 of Modern Jive Cartoon 3 / Facebook Dance Cartoon Project

Here's the 2nd step of the current cartoon, just added some light blue colored pencil to indicate the areas of shade and establish the forms. I'm thinking of keeping this design reasonably simplistic and monochrome-ish rather than working it up to full color.

FINISHED! Modern Jive Cartoon 2 / Facebook Dance Cartoon Project

Here's the finished pic. Definition has been added with biro (ball point pen), outlining the figures, including the facial features and some motion lines included to add a little fun. I decided to not go with the strong cast shadows I often include in these drawings and instead elected to hint at some of the reflection in the floor. (The background of the image has been cleaned up using the excellent and free program "Paint" that is available from www.filehippo.com).
Many thanks to Ann for hitting "like" on the Strictly Dance Fun facebook page and sending in the photo which inspired this pic.

Modern Jive Cartoon 2 (stage 3) / Facebook Dance Cartoon Project

Here's the third stage of the modern jive cartoon drawing (Facebook Dance Cartoon Project)  Using more colored pencil to add definition and shadows. Note how the lighter hair tones are showing through the more recently added darker shades.

Modern Jive Cartoon 2 (stage 2) / Facebook Dance Cartoon Project

Stage 2 of the current Facebook Dance Cartoon Project drawing (modern jive). Using colored pencil to block in the flesh tones and clothes. The hair at this stage is colored light blue, the plan being that some of this will show through on the finished drawing as highlights.

Modern Jive Cartoon 2 (stage 1) / Facebook Dance Cartoon Project

Here's the first stage of another cartoon, like the previous entry in the Facebook Dance Cartoon Project this is modern jive again. At this stage I'm just establishing the positions and posture of the figures with loose pencil lines.

Modern Jive Cartoon / Facebook Dance Cartoon Project

Following on from the previous post here's the first cartoon from the Facebook Dance Cartoon Project. Dancer Steve was kind enough to send me a photo having hit 'like' on the Strictly Dance Fun facebook page.

I've used the photo as inspiration for this cartoon. The idea behind the Facebook Dance Cartoon Project is to create artwork inspired by photos of dancers. The drawings are not intended to be portraits or caricatures though there may in some cases be a resemblance to the people involved.

In this case the dancers were not in classic rock and roll outfits, but I felt the switch to more nostalgic garb suited the pose. This has been created using a combination of copic markers, biro, and colored pencils.
